Styling
Distinctive styling points abound. The LED headlight and LED front position lights accent the sharp lines of the cowling that covers the custom-designed instrument panel. The sleek two-tone seat is comfortable, and the seat strap provides the passenger with a good grip. The tail light features a striking lighting pattern, and the satellite rear fender extending from the swingarm complements the clean, compact and sharp look of the rear. All this is complemented by the KATANA’s upswept black muffler.

Distinctive New LED Headlight
A new design featuring a vertically stacked LED headlight with a unique rectangular shape and LED front position lights accentuates the sharp look of the KATANA’s face.

Rear combination Lights
The new LED rear combination lights feature sharp lines and a unique lighting pattern that heighten the advanced look of the KATANA’s styling.

Chassis
The KATANA’s monocoque-style bodywork has design cues from the legendary 1982 Katana and boasts a modern look that highlights the bike’s chassis and running gear. Engineered to be agile and fun to ride, the KATANA’s lightweight and compact chassis has an ergonomically comfortable and sporty riding position.

Passenger Accommodation
The rear portion of the seat provides good passenger accommodations with its large base, ample foam, grab strap, and height, which offers a good view over the rider’s shoulder.

Informative Full LCD Intrumentation
The LCD multi-function instrument panel has a distinctive appearance and display format that is exclusive to the KATANA. The panel’s LED back lighting is adjustable so the rider can set the brightness of white lettering and graphics against the display’s black background.

Engine
Japanese swordsmiths devote countless hours to repeatedly forging, hammering, folding and welding raw steel to achieve the right balance needed for the blade to perform optimally. This process is absolutely critical in achieving the desired result.
Fired by the same spirit, Suzuki’s development team tested and tuned each component time and again until they were satisfied the KATANA would deliver the optimal balance of power, comfort and control.
At the heart of the KATANA’s powerful performance is a custom long-stroke version of the legendary fuel-injected 999cm3 inline-four engine that first proved itself on the 2005–2008 GSX-R1000. Its broad torque output range combines with a new throttle control that delivers this power smoothly. Both the induction roar and exhaust note are tuned to heighten the visceral sense of riding pleasure,
while also contributing to performance and combustion efficiency.

Traction Control System
Suzuki’s Advanced Traction Control System* helps the KATANA rider control the throttle with more confidence in various riding conditions. As a result, the rider can enjoy riding with less anxiety. There are four traction control modes (1, 2, 3, and OFF) that can be easily adjusted when stopped or on the fly via a handlebar-mounted control. The difference between the modes is their sensitivity to road conditions.
• Mode 1 is the lowest sensitivity level – most suitable for skilled riders or in conditions that have good road surface grip (sport riding on good, smooth roads).
• Mode 2 is a moderate sensitivity level – suitable for most riders or in conditions that have varied road surface grip (city riding, regular road conditions).
• Mode 3 is the highest sensitivity level – suitable for road conditions where the grip may be limited (wet or cold surfaces).
• OFF disengages all traction control features. The rider is fully responsible for the engine’s output to the rear wheel.

Higher Peak Power
The digital ignition fires iridium-type spark plugs for high spark strength and combustion efficiency that results in higher peak power, more linear throttle response, easier engine start-up, and a stable idle. These quality components also last longer than conventional spark plugs.

Exhaust System
The blacked-out, stainless steel 4-2-1 exhaust system helps the engine deliver a strong low- to mid-range punch with an exciting rush to redline. The header portion of the KATANA’s exhaust includes equalizer pipes between the two outer and the two inner head pipes to fine-tune the exhaust pressure wave that results in stronger engine power. Located in the mid-pipe, the Suzuki Exhaust Tuning (SET) valve controls flow into the catalyzer and exhaust chamber to balance performance and emissions control. The exhaust chamber location aids in mass centralization for excellent chassis balance

TRANSMISSION
The KATANA’s race-proven six-speed close-ratio transmission features vertically staggered shafts to reduce overall engine length. This permits the use of a GSX-R-style twin-spar frame.
Clutch
Similar to the components in a GSX-R1000R, the KATANA’s SCAS-style clutch increases plate pressure under acceleration, yet acts as a slipper clutch to smooth the engine response during engine braking and corner entry. This large-diameter, wet multi-plate clutch uses a precise cable-activated release, providing the rider with superb friction-point feel.


SDTV - Suzuki Dual Throttle Valve System
Suzuki Dual Throttle Valve (SDTV) digital fuel-injection system. In SDTV induction system, each throttle body barrel has two butterfly valves, a primary valve controlled by the twist grip and a secondary valve controlled by the ECM based on engine rpm, gear selection and the position of the primary valve. The secondary butterfly valve opens and closes to maintain ideal intake air velocity, improving high combustion efficiency, thus resulting in a linear throttle response, increased low-to-mid range torque.


SCEM - Suzuki Composite Electrochemical Material
Suzuki Composite Electrochemical Material (SCEM) is Suzuki’s own nickel-silicon-carbide coating technique derived from racetrack experience. SCEM cylinders allow faster heat transfer and tighter piston-to-cylinder clearance, for superb durability and resistance to scuffing.


SRAD - Suzuki Ram Air System
The Suzuki Ram Air-Direct (SRAD) air intakes are positioned close to the centreline of the fairing nose – the position offering optimum intake efficiency. This results in better intake efficiency, increasing engine power in high speed. * The technology is used in GSX-R1000, 750, 600 and Hayabusa.


STCS - Suzuki Traction Control System
Suzuki’s traction control system continuously monitors front and rear wheel speeds, throttle position sensor, crank position sensor and gear position sensor, and quickly reduces engine output when wheel spin is detected. Engine output is controlled by managing ignition timing and air delivery to ensure smoother traction control operation. As a result the rider can enjoy more comfortable long distance riding, with less stress and fatigue.


SCAS - Suzuki Clutch Assist System
Suzuki Clutch Assist System (SCAS) - a back-torque-limiting clutch helps make downshifts smoother, assists the rider in taking control in deceleration. Ramped engagement cams built into the clutch hub decrease force on the clutch plates under deceleration by pushing up against the pressure plate, allowing the plates to slip at a controlled rate.


SDMS - Suzuki Drive Mode Selector
Suzuki Drive Mode Selector (S-DMS) system allows the rider to select one of three fuel injection and ignition system maps (2 maps in the case of GSX-R750/600), adjusting power delivery to suit personal preference in various riding situations, such as different racetracks or tight, twisty roads. Selecting and switching between mode settings is by a switch on the handlebar; the selected mode setting is displayed on the right side of the tachometer. The feature helps the rider to enjoy the performance in a wider range of riding situations. * The technology is used in GSX-R1000, 750, 600 and Hayabusa.


SET - Suzuki Exhaust Tuning
Suzuki Exhaust Tuning (SET) system, which uses a servo-controlled butterfly valve to modify back pressure and tune the pipe to match engine rpm. At lower rpm, the valve closes, increasing back pressure and improving low-end torque. The valve progressively opens as engine speed increases, reducing back pressure and increasing mid-range and high-rpm power.


Easy Start System
On a normal motorcycle when starting the engine, the rider needs to press and hold the starter switch until the engine fires up. With the Suzuki Easy Start, all you need to do is one quick push of the starter switch, just like starting a modern car engine. The ECM recognizes the signals and keeps the starter motor working for a specified time.
